After running a scan using Trend Micro Antivirus One, you see this message below:

Action Required. Manual Delete Browser Hijacker

Why did this happen?

Antivirus One is unable to automatically delete the Browser Hijacker from your computer due to App Sandboxing implemented on App Store.

What should I do next?

You need to remove it manually using Manual Delete:

  1. From the Scan Results page, click Manual delete.

Click Manual Delete in Trend Micro Antivirus One

  2. The Profiles window will appear and you will see the malicious configuration profile installed on your computer.

Malicious Profile detected by Trend Micro Antivirus One

Configuration profiles let you standardize settings for Mac computers. It is commonly used by IT admins for company owned devices.

When it comes to home users, adware and browser hijacker are using these configuration profiles to prevent users from removing malicious programs from the computer. This also prevents the user from changing the malicious behavior in the browser’s settings.

  3. Click the button on the lower left to remove it.

    Remove Malicious Profile

  4. Click Remove to delete the unknown malicious profile.

    Remove button in Profiles

  5. Type your Mac username and password to confirm.

    Confirm removal with Mac credentials
