Why Does This Error Appear?

Your Mac already has another antivirus or security application installed. Running two security apps at the same time causes software conflicts and can slow down your Mac, so Trend Micro Antivirus stops the installation to let you resolve it first.

How to Remove the Conflicting Software

  1. Take note of the conflicting app name shown in the error message before closing it.
  2. Open Spotlight by pressing Command (⌘) + Space on your keyboard.
  3. Type Applications, then press Return. Your Applications folder will open.
  4. Locate the conflicting security app in the Applications folder.
  5. Drag the app to the Trash, or right-click it and select Move to Trash.
  6. 🔔 Important Note: Some security apps — such as Norton, McAfee, Avast, or Bitdefender — have their own dedicated removal tools and may not fully uninstall when dragged to the Trash.
  7. Enter your administrator password when prompted, then click OK.
  8. Restart your Mac to ensure all components of the removed app are cleared.
  9. Run the Trend Micro Antivirus installer again. If the installation completes and shows Protected, you’re all set! ✅
