To reduce privacy risks, Apple’s recent update for iOS14, iPadOS14, and watchOS7 will cause iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch devices to generate a unique static MAC Address for every network they connect. This change could affect your experience with Trend Micro Home Network Security in the following ways:

  • Previously configured access, Security, or Parental Controls settings can be reset or bypassed if a device’s MAC address changes.
  • Changing your Wi-Fi network’s SSID, resetting your router, or resetting your iDevice’s network settings will cause your iDevice to be recognized as a new device by Trend Micro Home Network Security and resets the previously configured settings.

Since Private Address is configurable by the network, it is recommended to disable it on your iDevices only for your home network to get the best identification results and maintain configured Home Network Security settings. But it is recommended to keep Private Address ON for all other networks.

Enable Private Address

  1. Open the Settings app, then tap Wi-Fi.
  2. Tap the Information button next to a network.
  3. Tap Private Address.

If your device joined the network without using a private address, a privacy warning explains why.

Update Trend Micro Home Network Security Settings

Once the upgraded iDevice connects to your home network after updating the OS or changing the network settings, delete the old device, and modify some settings on the newly recognized device:

  1. To remove the old device, follow the instructions from this article: How to remove a profile.
  2. Make sure to enable the New Device Approval feature.
  3. Set up the newly recognized device to protect the Internet activities of your kids.
  4. Add the device to the Unmanaged Device List.
