The Vault feature in Trend Micro ID Protection may repeatedly prompt you to enter your password if the Vault Auto‑Lock setting is enabled or if your browser is not saving cookies correctly. This behavior is expected in certain configurations and can usually be resolved by adjusting Vault or browser settings.

Why Did This Happen

This behavior typically occurs for one or more of the following reasons:

  • The Vault Auto‑Lock setting is configured to lock after a short time interval.
  • Browser cookies required to maintain the Vault session are blocked or deleted.
  • The browser is running in Incognito or InPrivate mode, which does not retain cookies.
  • Certain browser extensions prevent cookies from being saved.

How to Fix It

  1. Adjust the Vault Auto-Lock Setting
  2. Vault Auto‑Lock controls how long the Vault remains unlocked when it is not in use. To change this setting:

    • Go to https://idprotect.trendmicro.com and sign in to your account.
    • Click the profile icon in the upper-right corner.
    • Select Settings.
    • Go to Vault.
    • Under Auto‑Lock, select your preferred option:
      • After 5 minutes
      • After 10 minutes
      • After 15 minutes
      • Never (the Vault locks only when the browser is closed)

Expected result: The Vault remains unlocked until the selected Auto‑Lock time is reached or until the browser is closed.

  3. Check Browser Cookie Settings
  4. If the Vault continues to prompt for a password after adjusting the Auto‑Lock setting, verify that your browser is configured to save cookies. Here are the steps on how to check for it depending on your browser:

    Google Chrome

    1. Open Settings.
    2. Go to Privacy and security > Cookies and other site data.
    3. Ensure one of the following options is selected:
      • Allow all cookies, or
      • Block third‑party cookies (do not select Block all cookies)
    4. Turn OFF: Clear cookies and site data when you close all windows
    5. (Optional) Under Sites that can always use cookies, add: idprotect.trendmicro.com
    6. Press Ctrl + Shift + Delete, clear cookies and cached images/files (All time).
    7. Restart Chrome and sign in again.

    Microsoft Edge

    1. Open Settings.
    2. Go to Cookies and site permissions > Manage and delete cookies and site data.
    3. Turn ON: Allow sites to save and read cookie data
    4. Turn OFF: Clear cookies and site data when you close all windows
    5. (Optional) Under Allow, add: idprotect.trendmicro.com
    6. Press Ctrl + Shift + Delete, clear cookies and cached data.
    7. Restart Edge and sign in again.

Important Notes

  • Incognito (Chrome) or InPrivate (Edge) mode does not save cookies and will cause the Vault to request the password repeatedly.
  • Some browser extensions, especially privacy or ad‑blocking tools, may interfere with cookies. Temporarily disable these extensions to test.
  • Clearing browser data will require you to sign in to Trend Micro ID Protection again.
