Before you install Trend Micro Security on your Windows PC, make sure your computer meets these minimum system requirements:
- Windows Version: ✅ Windows 10 (version 22H2), Windows 11, or later
- Processor: ✅ At least 1 GHz
(NOTE: Trend Micro Security supports ARM-based processors) - Memory: ✅ At least 2 GB of RAM
🔔 Important Note:
The latest Trend Micro Security (Version 17.9) is designed for 64-bit versions of Windows to give you faster performance and stronger protection.
How to Check Your Windows Version
- Click the Start button (the Windows icon at the bottom-left of your screen).
- Click Settings (the gear icon ⚙️).
- Go to System, then scroll down and click About.
- Look for the Windows specifications section near the bottom of the page.
You'll see your Windows edition (e.g., Windows 11 Home), version number, and whether your system is 32-bit or 64-bit.
✅ If you see Windows 10 (22H2 or later) or Windows 11: Your PC is ready — you meet the Windows requirement.
What If I am Using an Older Version of Windows?
We understand this can feel frustrating if you have an older computer. Unfortunately, Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1 are no longer supported by Microsoft — meaning they no longer receive security updates. Because of this, Trend Micro Security cannot be installed on these versions.
Your options:
- Upgrade to Windows 10 or Windows 11. Before you do, check that your PC hardware supports the newer version.
- Back up your files first. Before any Windows upgrade, save your important photos, documents, and files to an external drive or cloud storage — just in case.
- Not sure if your PC can handle the upgrade? Microsoft offers a free tool called PC Health Check that tells you whether your computer can run Windows 11.
What About Windows Insider Preview Builds?
Windows Insider Preview Build is a special version of Windows that some users sign up for voluntarily to test new features before they're released to everyone. If you didn't deliberately sign up for this program, you almost certainly don't have it.
If you do have an Insider Preview Build, Trend Micro Security may not work correctly on it. We recommend installing on a standard (non-preview) version of Windows for the best experience.
