Search Bar items may have stopped unexpectedly or have corrupted system files after upgrading to Windows 11.

How do I fix this?

Restart your computer

The most basic and straightforward approach when you encounter system-related problems on your computer.

  1. Make sure no programs are open on your Desktop.
  2. Press ALT and F4 keys at the same time to get the Shut Down Windows screen.
  3. Choose Restart on the dropdown list.

If the issue persists, proceed to the next step.

Check for any Windows Updates

Microsoft might already have a fix for this issue. Always keep your system updated for better computer security and performance.

  1. Click the Start , then go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update. You can also access it via the shortcut button below:

  2. Click Check for updates.
  3. Install any needed updates.

Run Search and Indexing Troubleshooter

This is a Windows built-in tool that helps analyze Search Bar issues.

  1. Click the Start , then go to Settings > System > Troubleshoot.
  2. Click Other Troubleshooters.
  3. Look for Search and Indexing, then click Run.

If the issue persists, proceed to the next step.

Restart Windows Search
  1. Press CTRL, SHIFT and ESC keys at the same time to open Task Manager.
  2. Click More details.
  3. Look for process named SearchHost.exe, right-click it, then choose End Task.
  4. If a prompt appears, click End Process.
  5. Restart your computer.

    Windows Search will automatically restart the next time you search.
