Similar to ZIP, RAR, and ISO, a 7z file is a compressed file created using 7-Zip, a free, open-source file compression tool.

How to open a 7z file?

While most operating systems have a way to open or extract compressed files instantly, they don’t have a built-in option for 7z files. However, we can use unarchive tools to open this file type.

Open 7z files on your Windows

  1. Download and install the Unzip One for FREE.
  2. Once installed, open the app.
  3. Select Extract, then click Add Archives.

  4. Select the 7z file you want to extract. You can also drag the files directly to the console.
  5. Click Extract All, then select where you want to save the files.

Open 7z files on your Mac

  1. Download and install the Unzip One for FREE.
