How to use Trend Micro WiFi Protection

Trend Micro WiFi Protection is an application for Android, iOS, Windows, and Mac devices that checks the safety of your WiFi connection. It scans the WiFi network and connects to a secured cloud VPN when security risks are detected.
Unsecured WiFi connection and its risks
Unsecured WiFi is a wireless connection which doesn’t require any special login or screening process to connect. This type of connection can provide you free internet use, but it can also bring dangerous risks like the following:
- Attackers can intercept your login credentials and use them to gather useful information.
- Information from your device can be collected and altered; thus, you can be subject to identity theft.
- Connected device can be infected and can be used in distributing and spreading infection.
Enable Automatic VPN mode
VPN protection will automatically turn ON when connecting to unsecure WiFi network. This VPN mode is highly recommended when connecting to Public WiFi networks such as WiFi networks on coffee shops, airports, shopping malls, etc.
- Open Trend Micro WiFi Protection
- Tap the VPN Settings drop-down, and select Automatic VPN.
- You may also enable this option by going to the app’s Settings and switching the toggle ON for Automatic VPN under Automatic Protection.

Enable Manual VPN mode
You can decide when to turn ON or to turn OFF VPN protection.
- Open Trend Micro WiFi Protection
- Tap the VPN Settings drop-down and select Manual VPN.
- You may also enable this option by going to the app’s Settings and switch the toggle OFF for Automatic VPN under Automatic Protection.

VPN Always ON mode
VPN protection will automatically turn on for the WiFi networks listed under VPN Always On WiFi networks list.
This VPN mode is highly recommended when connecting to Public WiFi networks such as WiFi networks on coffee shops, airports, shopping malls, etc.

Add a WiFi network to the VPN Always ON WiFi Network List
- For wired connections, VPN can be enabled on UWP but no other features like Network Scan, Trusted List, and Unknown List.
- WiFi Protection will not check any issues for Wired Connections.
For iOS and Android devices
- While connected to an unsecured WiFi network, open Trend Micro WiFi Protection app.
- Tap the VPN Settings drop-down and select VPN Always On.
This will automatically add the WiFi network to the VPN Always On WiFi Network List.

For Windows and Mac
- While connected to an unsecured or a public WiFi network, open the Trend Micro WiFi Protection main console.
- On the main console, click the VPN Settings drop-down and select VPN Always On.
This will automatically add the WiFi network to the VPN Always On WiFi Network List.
Remove a WiFi network from VPN Always ON WiFi Network List
For iOS and Android devices
- Open Trend Micro WiFi Protection app.
- Tap the ... located at the top right corner of the app.
- Select Settings.
- Scroll down and tap VPN Always On WiFi Networks under Automatic Protection.
- Tap Edit.
- Select the WiFi network that you want to remove.
- Tap Delete, then tap Remove to confirm.
For Windows
- Open the Trend Micro WiFi Protection main console.
- Click the Settings (Gear Icon).
- Scroll down, then click VPN Always On WiFi Network.
The VPN Always On WiFi Networks option will be disabled if there are WiFi networks added on this list.
- Select the WiFi network that you want to remove.
- Click Remove, then click OKto confirm.
For Mac
- Open the Trend Micro WiFi Protection main console.
- Open the Preferences of WiFi Protection located at the top right corner.
- Scroll down, then click VPN Always On WiFi Networks.
The VPN Always On WiFi Networks option will be disabled if there are no trusted WiFi networks listed.
- Select the WiFi network that you want to remove.
- Click Remove, then click OKto confirm.
VPN Always OFF Mode
VPN protection will be automatically turned off for WiFi networks listed under VPN Always Off WiFi Networks. This mode is recommended when connecting to secure WiFi networks.
