If your browser's homepage and search engine have changed to SearchMine, follow these steps to remove the hijacker from your Mac.

What is Search Mine?

Search Mine is a browser hijacker that changes your default homepage to searchmine.net and your default search engine to SearchMine. It often installs an extension or add-on in your browser without your consent.

How to Remove Search Mine from Your Mac

1. Remove Unknown Login or Startup Items

  1. Go to System Preferences > Users & Groups.
  2. Select your profile on the left side, then click the Login Items tab.
  3. Check for any recently added suspicious apps. Select them and click the - (minus) button to disable them at startup.
  4. Restart your Mac to apply the changes.

2. Remove Malicious Profile Configurations

Check for any profiles that you did not set up:

  1. Go to System Preferences > Profiles.
  2. If there are any profiles you did not create, select them and click the Remove button.

3. Remove Suspicious Extensions from Web Browsers

Remove any suspicious extensions from your web browsers:

Remove Extensions in Safari

  1. Open Safari.
  2. Go to Safari > Preferences > Extensions.
  3. Find the suspicious extension and click Uninstall.

Remove Extensions in Chrome

  1. Open Google Chrome.
  2. Go to Chrome > Preferences > Extensions.
  3. Find the suspicious extension and click Remove.

Remove Extensions in Firefox

  1. Open Firefox.
  2. Go to Firefox > Preferences > Extensions & Themes.
  3. Under Manage your Extensions, find the suspicious extension and click Remove.

4. Remove Potentially Unwanted Applications

Remove any suspicious applications from your Mac:

  1. Go to Finder > Go > Applications.
  2. Check for any recently added suspicious applications and drag them to the Trash. Empty the Trash.

5. Fix Website Redirection Settings on Browsers

Restore your browser settings to prevent redirections:

Fix Redirection in Safari

  1. Open Safari.
  2. Go to Safari > Preferences > Privacy.
  3. Click Manage Website Data... and then click Remove All.

Fix Redirection in Chrome

  1. Open Google Chrome.
  2. Go to Chrome > Preferences > Search engine.
  3. Select Manage search engines and site search.
  4. Under Search engines, choose a default search engine.
  5. Remove any unfamiliar search engines.

Fix Redirection in Firefox

  1. Open Firefox.
  2. Go to Firefox > Preferences > Search.
  3. Under Default Search Engine, select your preferred search engine.
