"Critical iOS update.

A new iOS update fixes a severe security risk on iPhones."

Why did this happen?

There is an existing bug found on iOS version 14.6 and below, which can permanently disable your Wi-Fi.

What is the issue?

A bug in iOS can permanently disable your iPhone’s Wi-Fi if you connect to a Wi-Fi name (SSID) with some special characters (for example: “%”).

What are its risks?

  • The iPhone can no longer connect to Wi-Fi. Neither rebooting nor changing the SSID can fix the problem.
  • Hackers can take advantage of this issue and cause malicious damage.

What should I do next?

Update your iPhone to its latest iOS version to fix this issue and make sure that your device automatically checks for available updates. Show me how.

If you cannot currently use the Wi-Fi on your iPhone because of this issue, you need to the iPhone’s network settings (Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings) to restart Wi-Fi. Resetting the network settings will erase all saved Wi-Fi passwords.

How can I prevent this from happening?

Avoid unfamiliar Wi-Fi networks that have special characters in their name.
