You are having problems upgrading your Mac, Mac mini, Macbook Air, Pro or iMac to macOS Ventura and would not install.

Why did this happen?

Your computer may not meet the minimum system requirements to install macOS Ventura (version 13) and also need some settings configured.

What should I do next?

Check if your Mac is compatible with macOS Ventura

Listed below are devices that can run the new operating system:

  • iMac (2017 and later)
  • iMac Pro (2017)
  • Mac mini (2018 and later)
  • Mac Pro (2019 and later)
  • MacBook Air (2018 and later)
  • MacBook (2017)
  • MacBook Pro (2017 and later)
  • Mac Studio (2022)

Check if your Mac has enough disk space

Your Mac needs to have at least 25 GB of free disk space to run macOS Ventura:

  1. Go to Apple menu > About this Mac.
  2. Click the Storage tab.
  3. Click Manage... to see detailed lists of what is taking up storage and where it is located on your Mac.
  4. Delete files or apps you do not need to free up some space.
  5. Empty the Trash.

You can use Trend Micro Cleaner One Pro to help clean up your storage.

Restart Your Mac

If you were not prompted with any specific error messages during the installation process, but macOS Ventura still will not install, you can try to restart your Mac. After your Mac has finished restarting, you can go through and try to install macOS Ventura again to see if that will work.

Redownload and Reinstall

You may want to remove the installer software and give it another go if you attempted downloading the macOS Ventura upgrade from the App Store but were unable to install the operating system. This is the same as any other software you installed because it is from the Mac App Store. To try installing macOS Ventura once more, you can remove the software as usual and then reinstall it.

  1. Go to the Applications Folder in Finder.
  2. Find the MacOS setup file.
  3. Select the file and move it to the Trash.
  4. Restart your Mac.
  5. Redownload and install again.

Reboot Mac in Safe Mode

For Intel Mac devices

  1. Go to Apple menu > Shut down.
  2. Turn ON your Mac while pressing down the SHIFT key.
  3. Release the SHIFT key when you see the login window.
  4. Try to install macOS Ventura again.

For Apple silicon Mac devices

  1. Go to Apple menu > Shut down.
  2. Press and hold the Power button until you see the Startup Options window. This window includes a Gear icon and an icon for your Startup Disk .
  3. Select your Startup Disk (like Macintosh HD) and press and hold the SHIFT key.
  4. Click Continue in Safe Mode, then log in again.
  5. Try to install macOS Ventura again.

Reset NVRAM

  1. Go to Apple menu > Shut down.
  2. Turn ON your Mac while pressing down the OPTION + COMMAND ⌘ + P + R keys for 20 seconds.
  3. Release the keys and wait for your Mac to boot normally.
  4. Try to install macOS Ventura again.
