You see this notification pop up:
"News alert about Fake Nintendo Sites.
Nintendo has warned customers of multiple sites impersonating the company's official website."
Why did this happen?
Trend Micro alerted you to a warning issued from Nintendo’s corporate site about spoofed sites selling Nintendo Switch consoles at significant discounts.
What is the issue?
Fake websites are impersonating Nintendo’s homepage and using the company’s logo illegally to make the site appear legitimate and trick users into thinking it is an official page.
The site displays Nintendo products for purchase at a significantly discounted price. These are most likely counterfeit products.
What are its risks?
Buying from fake sites will put you at risk since your personal and financial information can be used by attackers during your transaction. It can lead to the unauthorized use of your information, usually for fraudulent purposes such as identity theft.
What should I do next?
Nintendo will immediately alert relevant law enforcement agencies to any fake sites they discover.
To provide additional protection for your Nintendo Accounts, we recommend the following best practices:
- Enable Two-Factor Authentication on your Nintendo Account.
- Visit the Nintendo Official Website to learn more about their products.
- Do NOT sign in to your Nintendo Account or provide your information on websites NOT affiliated with Nintendo.
