MacOS Ventura Update Taking Forever

You notice while updating your Mac, Mac mini, Macbook Air, Pro or iMac to macOS Ventura, it gets stuck or will not continue.

Check your Internet connection

You will need a good and stable Internet connection to perform an OS upgrade. Try a different WiFi or Ethernet cable if you know your Internet connection is dropping.

Check the Apple Server

1. Visit Apple System Status here: https://www.apple.com/support/systemstatus/.
2. Find the macOS Software Update service.
3. Check its status:
   • Green indicates it is operational.
   • Red indicates there may be performance issues.
   • If the update server is offline, you must wait until it is fixed before trying again.

Check if your Mac is compatible with macOS Ventura

Check if your Mac has enough disk space

Your Mac needs to have at least 25 GB of free disk space to run macOS Ventura:

1. Go to Apple menu > About this Mac.
2. Click the Storage tab.
3. Click Manage... to see detailed lists of what is taking up storage and where it is located on your Mac.
4. Delete files or apps you do not need to free up some space.
5. Empty the Trash.

1. Go to Apple menu > Shut down.
2. Turn ON your Mac while pressing down the SHIFT key.

4. Try to update macOS Ventura again.

For Apple silicon Mac devices

For Apple silicon Mac devices

1. Go to Apple menu > Shut down.
2. Press and hold the Power button until you see the Startup Options window. This window includes a Gear icon and an icon for your Startup Disk .
3. Select your Startup Disk (like Macintosh HD) and press and hold the SHIFT key.
4. Click Continue in Safe Mode, then log in again.
5. Try to update macOS Ventura again.
