How Trend Micro Security works with Microsoft Defender

Microsoft Defender Antivirus is the built-in protection for Windows computers and laptop running on Windows 10 and Windows 11. However, it is only limited to virus & threat protection.

With Trend Micro Security for Windows, you have a plethora of features to use so you can optimize and protect your Windows computer.

Compatibility with Microsoft Defender

Trend Micro Security works as your primary security provider in charge of threat detection and remediation. When Trend Micro is enabled, Microsoft Defender will run in passive mode. Microsoft Defender will keep running on the background and help scan and detect threats. When threats are detected, Trend Micro Security will remediate, and report these threats.

There is no need to uninstall Microsoft Defender Antivirus.

Check if Trend Micro is protecting you

Here are the steps to make sure Trend Micro Security is turned ON and enabled:

1. Click the Show hidden icons arrow next to the notification area.
2. Select the Windows Security app, then choose Virus & threat protection.
3. Check if you see a “Trend Micro Security is turned ON” message.
