If your Social Security Number has been compromised, it is important to take immediate actions to prevent identity thieves from causing further damage.
Cybercriminals may use your Social Security Number to acquire more information and use them to try to hack your accounts.
Keep an eye on your financial accounts and credit reports for any unusual activity. If you see any unauthorized charges, report them to your financial institution or credit bureau immediately.
Credit Freeze will prevent others from opening new accounts or taking out loans in your name. To request, contact the three major credit bureaus: Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion.
If you suspect your Social Security Number is compromised but have no signs of fraud yet, enable a Fraud Alert instead of a credit freeze. The Fraud Alert will ask businesses to verify your identity before offering credit in your name.
Download Trend Micro ID Security to help monitor your personal data, including your Social Security Number, credit cards, phone numbers, and more, on the dark web and alert you if any of your leaked personal data is being maliciously sold or distributed by cybercriminals.
