If you already have a Trend Micro subscription and are seeing “Upgrade” or payment messages in the ID Protection app, this page explains what’s happening and how to fix it.

Important: ID Protection is included with all Trend Micro Security Suite plans and with Maximum Security in the United States and Canada.

I Already Have a Trend Micro Subscription. Do I Need to Pay Again?

It depends on your product and region.

You don’t need to pay again if you have any of these Security Suite products:

  • Premium Security Suite
  • Security Suite Pro
  • Security Suite Pro Plus
  • Security Suite Ultimate
  • Personal Protection Suite

At this time, Maximum Security includes ID Protection only for customers in the United States and Canada. In other regions, ID Protection is not currently bundled with Maximum Security and may need to be purchased separately.

To activate your included ID Protection:

  1. Install the Trend Micro ID Protection app.
  2. Sign in using the same email address associated with your Trend Micro subscription.

I Just Renewed, But ID Protection Still Says “Upgrade.”

This usually happens when the app hasn’t synced yet with your renewed subscription. Try these steps:

  1. Sign out of the ID Protection app.
  2. Sign back in using the same email address tied to your Security Suite or Maximum Security (US/Canada) subscription.

The App Says I Have a “Security Issue.” Do I Have a Virus?

Not necessarily. This message usually means that ID Protection found your email or password in a data breach, not that your device is infected.

If your plan includes ID Protection, you’ll be able to see the breach details in the app. If it keeps showing pricing or upgrade pages, make sure you’re signed in with the correct subscription email.

I Have Maximum Security, Isn’t ID Protection Included?

Yes — but only for customers in the United States and Canada.

For users in these regions, Trend Micro Maximum Security already includes ID Protection at no extra cost. For other regions, Maximum Security does not include ID Protection unless you have one of the Security Suite plans listed above.

Region Plans with ID Protection Included Separate Purchase Needed?
All regions Premium Security Suite, Security Suite Pro, Security Suite Pro Plus, Security Suite Ultimate, Personal Protection Suite No
United States & Canada Maximum Security (and all Security Suite products) No
Other regions Security Suite products only Yes — Maximum Security requires a separate purchase

Tip: Always sign in to the ID Protection app using the same email address linked to your Trend Micro subscription to ensure your plan is recognized.

Will my remaining Password Manager days transfer to ID Protection?

YES! Please wait for an email from Trend Micro confirming that your subscription has been upgraded to ID Protection. Once you receive it, the remaining days from your Password Manager will automatically transfer to your ID Protection plan. It’s best to move your passwords to ID Protection NOW before the end of support (EOS) for Password Manager, so you won’t have any trouble opening or using your passwords later.
