If you find that you cannot open the Trend Micro Security such as Maximum Security, Internet Security, or Antivirus+ Security on your Windows computer, follow these steps to resolve the issue.

👨‍🔧 How to Fix

Restart the Trend Micro program using the following steps:

  1. Hold down the Windows ⊞ (looks like a square flag) and press R to open the "Run" window.
  2. In the box, type supporttool.exe, then click OK.
  3. If asked “Do you want to allow this app to make changes?" - click Yes.
  4. The Trend Micro Diagnostic Tool will open. Navigate to the (C) Uninstall tab.
  5. Click 5. Stop all components. (wait until the Trend Micro icon disappears from the tray near the clock).
  6. Click 4. Start all components to restart the program.
  7. Try opening the Trend Micro program again.

If you get a message saying “Windows cannot find supporttool.exe”

  1. Type %programdata% instead, then click OK.
  2. In the folder that opens, look for Trend Micro Installer folder.
  3. Open the latest folder (the one with the most recent date).
  4. Open the SupportTool folder.
  5. Double‑click supporttool.exe.
  6. The Trend Micro Diagnostic Tool will open. Navigate to the (C) Uninstall tab.
  7. Click 5. Stop all components. (wait until the Trend Micro icon disappears from the tray near the clock).
  8. Click 4. Start all components to restart the program.
  9. Try opening the Trend Micro program again.
