How to identify unknown devices connected to your network

After running a scan, you might see devices connected to your network you cannot identify. Make sure your home is secure with these easy steps.
Check if the device belongs to your family
Each device can be identified with its IP or MAC address.
- Check the device IP/MAC address.
Expand All
On Android
- Tap Settings.
- Tap Wireless & networks or About Device.
- Tap Wi-Fi Settings or Hardware Info.
- Press the Menu key, then choose Advanced.
Your device's wireless adapter's MAC address should be visible.
On iOS
- Tap Settings.
- Tap General.
- Tap About.
The Mac address is listed as Wi-Fi Address.
On Windows
- On your keyboard, press the Windows
+ I keys.
The Setting window will be open.
- Choose Network & Internet.
- For wireless connections, click Wi-Fi. Otherwise, click Ethernet.
- Select your network connection.
- Scroll down to see the MAC address next to "Physical Address (MAC)".
On Mac
- Open System Preferences.
- Click Network.
- Under Preferred Networks, select the network connection you are using, then click Advanced.
- The MAC address is the “Wi-Fi address” located at the bottom part of the window.
- Check if it matches with what is shown in the app.
If the addresses are the same, it means that it is one of your devices.
