How to check unknown device Home Network Security detects

After running a scan using Trend Micro Home Network Security, you may see devices connected to your network you cannot identify. Make sure your home is secure with these easy steps.

Identify unknown devices protected with Trend Micro Home Network Security

Get the IP address of the unknown device

1. Open the Home Network Security app on your device.
2. Tap the Menu icon you see on the upper left.
3. Tap Devices, then select the unknown device.
4. Tap the Information tab, then take note of its IP address.

Check the IP Addresses of all your devices

On Android

Check Android phone or tablet IP Address

1. Tap the Settings app.
2. Tap About Phone or About Device.
3. Tap Status or Hardware Information.
4. Scroll down to see the IP address.

On iPhone or iPad

Check iOS/iPadOS IP Address

1. Tap Settings > Wi-Fi.
2. Tap the connected Wi-Fi network.
3. Look for the IP address listed under IPV4 ADDRESS.

On Windows

Check Windows computer or laptop IP Address

1. Open your network settings:

   Open Wi-Fi Settings
   Open Ethernet Settings

2. Select your network connection.
3. Look for the IP address listed under IPV4 ADDRESS from the Properties List.

On Mac

Check Mac IP Address

1. Open System Preferences.
2. Click Network.
3. Under Preferred Networks, select the network connection you are using, then click Advanced.
4. Click the TCP/IP tab.
5. Look for the IP address next to IPv4 Address.

Compare the IP addresses

Compare the IP address of the unknown device to all of your device IP addresses. If it does not match with any of your devices, someone might have connected to your network without your permission.

Trend Micro recommends removing unknown devices from your network.

Prevent unknown devices from connecting to your network

• Update your default Wi-Fi SSID
• Update your Wi-Fi password with a stronger one
• Enable New Device Approval
• Disable WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) through your router’s admin console
