Best Practices to Protect Home Security Cameras

Below are some of the best practices to protect your connected security camera systems:

  • Avoid reusing the same password on multiple accounts.
  • Use a strong password and if available, always enable two-factor authentication to secure the account used to log in to your camera system. Here are the qualifications of a secured password:
    • has at least eight (8) characters.
    • a combination of uppercase and lowercase letters.
    • a combination of letters, numbers, and symbols.
  • Make sure to use strong Wi-Fi encryption on your network where security cameras are connected.
  • Always make sure your security cameras are updated to the latest firmware.

Protect Security Cameras with Home Network Security

For Trend Micro Home Network Security users, make sure the following settings are enabled to keep your security cameras protected:

  1. Open the Home Network Security app on your mobile device.
  2. Tap the Menu icon you see on the upper left, then tap Settings.
  3. Go to Threat Blocking, then turn ON Network Protection.
  4. Go to Access Control, then turn ON New Device Approval.
  5. Go to Device Scan, then turn ON Password Check and Vulnerability Check.
