The Parental Controls feature of your Trend Micro Security program allows you to do the following:

  • Specify how people use the Internet on your computer
  • Prevent specific categories of websites from being opened
  • Limit Internet access to only certain periods of the day
  • Set rules that apply to a specific account on your computer

To enable the Parental Controls feature of your Trend Micro Security, you can watch the video tutorial or follow the steps below:

  1. Open the main console of your Trend Micro Security software:
    • Double-click the Trend Micro icon on your desktop.
    • Double-click the Trend Micro icon on your system tray.
  2. Click the Family tab.

  3. Click Configure.

    Click Configure

  4. Click OK when the Introduction window appears.
    Click Don’t show this introduction again if you don't want to see this window when you access Parental Controls in the future.


  5. Create a password by doing the following:
    1. Type your password.
    2. Retype your password to confirm.
    3. Type a password hint.
    4. Type your email address.
    5. Click Create.
      The password must be at least 8 characters.

      You will see the Set Up Protection for Your Family page. Click Next.

  6. Set the Parental Controls according to the following:
    • Website Filter - The Parental Controls feature lets you filter different categories of websites based on the following age groups:
      • Child (ages 3-7 years old)
      • Pre-teen (ages 8-12 years old)
      • Teen (ages 13-17 years old)
      • Custom - Selecting Custom from the dropdown list allows you to pick and choose all of the categories that you would like to block.

    • Time Limits - The Parental Controls feature allows you to schedule your kids' time on the Internet. You can set separate schedules for weekdays and weekends by clicking on the meter. The program shows how many hours of access are allotted. A highlighted hour means that web access is blocked. To edit the schedule, do either of the following:
      • Click any part of the meter to allow or block the internet access during that period.
      • Click and drag your mouse along the meter to allow or deny internet access for a specific period.

    If you access a blocked website or use the Internet during the period it is blocked, the Parental Controls blocking page will appear. If there are no hours selected, the Unlimited Internet Access message should show.

    • Program Controls - Click the Add button to select a program that you don’t want your kids to use. Set a schedule to choose when you want them blocked.

  7. A summary of the settings and schedule for Website Filter, Time Limits and Program Controls will be displayed. Click Done.

  8. Click OK when the Parental Controls window appears.

    Click OK

    You can make changes to the settings that you selected at any time by clicking Family > Configure on the main console. You will then be prompted to enter your password.
