The Pay Guard feature of your Trend Micro Security fails to launch and does not respond when you try to open it.

Why is this happening?

  • Insufficient resources, such as RAM or processing power, can prevent your computer from loading additional apps.
  • Some Trend Micro components may have been corrupted.

How do I fix this?

To fix the issue, do the following:

End active Pay Guard processes

  1. Press the CTRL + ALT + DELETE keys at the same time, then choose Task Manager.
  2. Locate uiProtectedBrowser.exe in the Processes tab.
  3. Right-click on the process and select Go to details.
  4. In the Details tab, right-click on the process and select End process tree.
  5. Click End process tree again in the confirmation dialog box.

Remove temporary Trend Micro files

  1. On your keyboard, press Windows + R keys at the same time to open the Run window.
  2. Type supporttool.exe, then click OK.
  3. When the User Account Control window appears, click Yes.
    This will open the Trend Micro Diagnostic Toolkit.
  4. Select the (C) Uninstall tab.
  5. Under Temporary Files, click 2. Delete now, then click 3. Delete now.
  6. Restart your computer.

Re-install Trend Micro Toolbar

Google Chrome

  1. Open Google Chrome browser.
  2. Click the Menu icon ( ⋮ ) in the upper-right corner, then select Extensions.
  3. Choose Manage Extensions.
  4. Click Remove for Trend Micro Security.

Microsoft Edge

  1. Open Microsoft Edge browser.
  2. Click the Menu icon ( … ) in the upper-right corner, then select Extensions.
  3. Click Remove for Trend Micro Security.
  4. Go to How to Install Trend Micro Toolbar on Windows Browsers: A Step-by-Step Guide to install Trend Micro Toolbar.

Restart Trend Micro Components Manually

  1. On your keyboard, press Windows ⊞ + R keys at the same time to open the Run window.
  2. Type supporttool.exe, then click OK.
  3. When the User Account Control window appears, click Yes.
    This will open the Trend Micro Diagnostic Toolkit.
  4. Click the (C) Uninstall tab.
  5. Under the Start or Stop Components section, click the 5. Stop all components button.
  6. Wait for 10-30 seconds. Your Trend Micro program will turn OFF temporarily.
  7. Under the Start or Stop Components section, click the 4. Start all components button.
    Your Trend Micro program will now turn back ON.
  8. Try to open Trend Micro Pay Guard again.

Re-install Trend Micro Security

  1. Secure your activation code for reinstallation.
  2. Uninstall your existing Trend Micro software.
  3. Visit the Trend Micro Downloads Page.
  4. Log in with your email and password.
  5. In the Downloads section, click the Download button for your subscription.
  6. Select Download to This Device and follow the prompts to download the installer.
  7. Open the downloaded file to start the installation process.
  8. If prompted by User Account Control, click Yes.
  9. Complete the installation by following the on-screen instructions.
  10. Enter your account information to activate your protection.
  11. Attempt to open Pay Guard once more.
