Encounter an error saying "Unable to Contact Trend Micro"? Follow these steps to resolve it.

Why am I seeing this error?

This error typically occurs when your Trend Micro software can't connect to its server for updates.

How can I fix this error?

If your Trend Micro program experiences an update issue, it's best to use the hotfix to resolve it quickly.

  1. Initiate the hotfix download by clicking the link below:
    Ti_1780_win_en_for_UMH_1166_later_hfb0002.exe
  2. Run the downloaded file Ti_1780_win_en_for_UMH_1166_later_hfb0002.exe
    by double-clicking it.
  3. Grant permission by clicking Yes in the User Account Control window.
  4. Complete the installation by following the on-screen instructions.
  5. Restart your device to apply changes.
  6. Try updating your Trend Micro program again.

 

Still seeing the same error message? Try restarting the Trend Micro components:

 

  1. Press the Windows ⊞ and R keys on your keyboard to open the Run window.
  2. In the Open field, type supporttool.exe, then click OK.
  3. Click Yes when the User Account Control window appears. The Trend Micro Diagnostic Toolkit will open.
  4. Click the (C) Uninstall tab.
  5. Click 5. Stop all components.
  6. Wait for 10-30 seconds or until the Trend Micro icon Trend Micro icon in the taskbar notification area disappears.
  7. Click 2. Delete Now and 3. Delete Now under Temporary Files.
  8. Wait for 1-2 minutes.
  9. Click 4. Start all components to turn it back on.
  10. Try updating the app again.


Consider upgrading to the latest version (17.8) of the program if the problem persists.
