You see this message on your computer installed with Trend Micro Security:

"Connect to the Internet.
Your protection depends on getting the latest threat information from Trend Micro.
Please check that you are connected to the Internet."

What Happened?

The program cannot connect to the Internet to get the latest updates.

How To Fix It

If your Trend Micro program experiences an update issue, it's best to use the hotfix to resolve it quickly.

  1. Initiate the hotfix download by clicking the link below:
    Ti_1780_win_en_for_UMH_1166_later_hfb0002.exe
  2. Run the downloaded file Ti_1780_win_en_for_UMH_1166_later_hfb0002.exe
    by double-clicking it.
  3. Grant permission by clicking Yes in the User Account Control window.
  4. Complete the installation by following the on-screen instructions.
  5. Restart your device to apply changes.
  6. Try updating your Trend Micro program again.

Still seeing the same error message? Try clearing the DNS cache:

NOTE: Make sure you are connected to the Internet.

  1. On your keyboard, press the Windows ⊞ + R keys at the same time.
  2. In the Open field, type cmd, then click OK. The Command Prompt should open.
  3. Type ipconfig /flushdns, then press ENTER.
  4. Wait for the message saying the DNS has been flushed.
  5. Open Trend Micro again, then click Update Now.
