Your Online Shopping Protection at a Glance
Trend Micro gives you three powerful tools for safer online shopping and banking:
- Pay Guard — Opens your bank or shopping websites in a more secure, protected browser window
- Data Theft Prevention — Blocks apps and websites from sneaking a look at your credit card numbers and other personal info
- Anti-Phishing Protection — Warns you before you land on a fake or dangerous website
Let's set each one up.
Pay Guard
Pay Guard is like a private, secure room for your online banking and shopping. When you visit a site like your bank or an online store, Pay Guard can open it in a protected browser window — one that's harder for malware or spyware to peek into.
How to turn on Pay Guard:
- Open Trend Micro on your computer.
- Click Privacy in the main menu.
- Click Configure next to Pay Guard.
- Select Ask every time before opening banking or shopping websites in Pay Guard.
- Click OK to save.
✅ You'll know it's working when: The next time you visit a banking or shopping website, Trend Micro will ask if you'd like to open it in Pay Guard's protected browser.
Want to stop Pay Guard from opening automatically?
If Pay Guard opens on its own and you'd prefer it didn't, here's how to turn that off:
- Open Trend Micro and click the Privacy tab.
- Click Configure next to Pay Guard.
- If an introduction screen appears, click OK.
- Under "Choose what to do when visiting banking or shopping websites," select Do nothing
- Click OK.
Data Theft Provention
Data Theft Prevention acts as a shield around your most sensitive personal details — like your credit card number, bank account info, or ID number. It helps stop websites or programs from grabbing that information without your permission.
How to turn on Data Theft Prevention:
- Open Trend Micro, then click Privacy.
- Click Configure next to Data Theft Prevention.
- If a welcome screen appears, click OK.
- You'll be asked to create a password. This password protects your Data Theft Prevention settings — choose something you'll remember, and keep it somewhere safe.
- Toggle the switch to ON.
- In the "What to protect" field, type the information you want to guard — for example, your credit card number or bank account number.
- Click OK to save.
✅ You'll know it's working when: The toggle shows ON and your information appears in the "What to protect" list.
🔔 Important: If you ever forget your Data Theft Prevention password, you may need to reset it through Trend Micro support. Keep it somewhere safe.
Anti-Phishing Protection
"Phishing" is when scammers create fake websites that look real — like a fake bank login page or a fake store — to trick you into entering your password or credit card number. Trend Micro's Anti-Phishing tool warns you before you accidentally land on one of these sites.
How to set up Anti-Phishing:
Anti-Phishing works through a small toolbar that installs in your web browser. Here's how to add it:
- Choose your browser and click the link to install the Trend Micro toolbar:
- Follow the on-screen steps to add the toolbar to your browser.
✅ You'll know it's working when: You see the Trend Micro toolbar icon in your browser, and it shows a safety rating when you visit websites.
