This article explains how to transfer your Trend Micro protection from an old device to a new one. The steps may be slightly different depending on whether your subscription covers multiple devices or a single device.
Scenario 1: Multi-Device Subscription
If your subscription allows installation on multiple devices (for example, 3 or 5 devices), follow these steps:
Step 1: Remove the Old Device (Optional but Recommended)
If you no longer use the old device:
- Sign in to your Trend Micro Account
- Go to Licenses tab.
- Click Manage Device.
- Locate the old device.
- Click Remove (or the ❌ icon).
- Confirm removal.
- This frees up a license slot for your new device.
NOTE: If the old device is unavailable (e.g., broken or lost), you can still remove it from your account.
Step 2: Install Trend Micro on the New Device
- On the new device, go to: https://account.trendmicro.com
- Sign in to your account.
- Under Licenses, click Add Device.
- Choose the correct device type (Windows, Mac, Android, iOS).
- Download the installer and follow the on-screen instructions to install.
- Once the installation is complete, your protection is automatically activated.
Scenario 2: Single-Device Subscription
If your subscription covers only one device, you must deactivate the old device before activating the new one.
Step 1: Uninstall from the Old Device
Follow these steps if you still have access to the old device:
- Open the Control Panel (Windows) or Applications folder (Mac).
- Uninstall the Trend Micro program.
- Restart the device if prompted.
If you cannot access the old device, remove it through your account:
- Sign in to your Trend Micro Account.
- Go to Licenses tab.
- Click Manage Device.
- Remove the old device.
Step 2: Install on the New Device
- On the new device, visit https://account.trendmicro.com.
- Sign in with your registered email and password.
- Go to Download tab.
- Download the installer and follow the installation prompts.
- Your subscription will transfer to the new device after activation.
How to Switch from Best Buy to Trend Micro Direct Subscription
If you want to transfer your Trend Micro protection from a Best Buy or other retail purchase to a direct subscription, you need to cancel your current subscription and buy a new one from the Trend Micro Official Online Store.
