Receiving a new activation code after purchasing a subscription for renewal implies that you have acquired a new subscription instead. This will not automatically extend the expiration date of your previous activation code. First, check which devices your previous subscription is protecting with the previous activation code. If you receive a new activation code for the same version of the Trend Micro subscription, simply update it in your Trend Micro apps:

If you bought a different subscription than your current one, you'll need to uninstall your current Trend Micro app and install a new one.
