Signs of a Legitimate Website

To determine if a website is trustworthy, look for the following signs:

  • Secure Connection (HTTPS): Look for the padlock icon next to the website's address in Safari. This indicates the site is secured.
  • Consistent Domain Name: Legitimate websites have a consistent domain name. Be cautious of slight variations that could indicate a fake site.
  • Professional Design and Layout: Trustworthy sites typically have clear designs with organized content and functional links.
  • Contact Information: Legitimate websites provide ways to contact them, such as an email address or phone number.

What Happens if You Visit an Unsafe Website?

Unsafe websites may display suspicious pop-ups, excessive ads, or URLs that closely resemble popular sites. Visiting these can expose you to risks like malware, phishing attempts, or data theft.

What to Do if You Visited a Malicious Website

If you accidentally visit a malicious website, follow these steps:

  1. Close the Website: Immediately close the site by tapping the X in the top left corner of Safari or swiping it away from the App Switcher.
  2. Clear Your Browsing Data: To remove traces of the malicious site, follow these steps:
    1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad.
    2. Go to Apps and select Safari.
    3. In Safari Settings, tap Clear History and Website Data.
    4. Tap Clear History to confirm.
